FAVORITE QUOTE
My favorite quote is “I don’t follow trends. I set my own.” by Teyana Taylor. It reminds me to stay true to myself and to create my own path instead of following someone else’s. I live by my own words too: “Big dreams require a plan, and I’m ready to make mine happen.”
FUTURE GOALS
I plan to attend Morgan State University, where I will pursue biomedical studies before continuing on to medical school. My goal is to become a pediatric neurosurgeon so I can care for children and their families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. To move closer to that dream, I am preparing to apply to Nazareth Regional High School’s Arthur Ashe/SUNY Downstate Pre-Med Program. I know this is a demanding path, but I am committed to combining academic excellence, science, medicine, and service.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
I have completed more than 100 hours of community service. I have volunteered with the NYC Department of Homeless Services, sorting donated clothing for shelters across all five boroughs. Through Delta GEMS, I helped create hygiene care packages for women’s shelters and teenage girls, and I have also served through Teen Lift. To celebrate my 16th birthday, I hosted Vote, Give & Celebrate, a voter registration drive, on Saturday, October 24th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch. Afterward, I hand-delivered the completed voter registration applications to the Brooklyn office of the NYC Board of Elections so that everyone who registered would be eligible to vote in the November 3, 2026 general election. I believe one of the best ways to mark growing up is by helping others make their voices heard. To me, service is not just about completing hours; it is about showing that young people can make a meaningful difference in their communities.
SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT
I am an 11th grader at Nazareth Regional High School, where I attend on an academic scholarship and take AP courses. At Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, I served as Majorette Captain and Step Team Captain and participated in marching band. These experiences taught me discipline, teamwork, accountability, and the importance of showing up for others. I am also a past member of Delta GEMS and Teen Lift.
WHY JABBERWOCK MATTERS TO ME
Jabberwock, a scholarship program sponsored by the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, matters to me because it celebrates young women who are poised, proud, and prepared, and it pushes me to grow in all three. My campaign is called Motion With Purpose because I am not simply moving to the next stage of my life; I am moving with intention. Through this journey, I am learning to share my story, organize events, engage supporters, and take ownership of a campaign. Starting over at a new school taught me that confidence isn’t something you wait to feel; you build it by showing up. Jabberwock gives me a stage to keep building that confidence, to show adults that girls my age are ready to lead now, and to honor the family and ancestors whose sacrifices made my opportunities possible.
ALLANA'S STORY
My name is Allana Jean Crockwell. I am a proud daughter of Trinidadian and Guyanese heritage, a Brooklyn scholar, and an 11th grader at Nazareth Regional High School, where I attend on an academic scholarship. This year, I made the brave choice to leave Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, where I was Majorette Captain and Step Team Captain, and start over at a new school. Leaving my friends, teachers, and leadership roles behind was scary, but I kept my future in focus. I believe that growth often feels uncomfortable at first, that girls my age are ready to lead right now, and that poise means speaking up with strength and grace. Whether I’m serving my community, celebrating my culture, or adjusting to new hallways, I carry myself with the confidence of someone who sets her own path.
